A Postcard From...

The Temple of Poseidon...

One destination. One moment. One little story worth sending home.

Temple of Poseidon at sunset

There are places that make you stop talking for a minute. The Temple of Poseidon is one of them — perched above the Aegean, with the sea stretching away in every direction. It's picture-perfect.

A little note from the road: What was the moment you would put on a postcard if you could only send one?

Found in Cape Sounion outside Athens, sunset at the temple is high on the tourist checklist. Although the hour plus drive each way and a fairly steep entry fee for a 45 minute visit, definitely put some people off. Not that you would know it once you're inside!

A short climb up the hill and there it is perched on top in all its glory. Of course as you're sharing it with thousands of other visitors looking for the same 'high', it's pretty challenging trying to get a picture with no people in it. But try I did and in a couple I succeeded!

For us, it was worth the visit and a great finish to our Athens leg. Looking out across the sea, we could imagine travelling across it the next day as we headed for the islands of Crete and Naxos...
